River Cottage
is set alongside the historic pilgrim route
to Santiago de Compostela. The cottage is on the Northern
Route, 3km from Villaviciosa.
This pilgrimage is known as Camino de Santiago.
This route has been used since the 9th Century. It is the
spiritual path which St James travelled along
on his way to Santiago de Compostela, which is where his remains
lay.
Registered in 1993 as a World Heritage Site,
today many people old and young and from varying nationalities
and classes take part in this pilgrimage, along a network
of Jacobean routes. For more than eight centuries, the cult
of the apostle Saint James has resulted in an endless flow
of pilgrims.
We welcome any guests who are taking this pilgrimage, to stay
at the cottage. Small paddock available for those making the
pilgrimage on horseback also bike storage area.
Stays are for the minimum of 2 nights and to include continental
breakfast and evening meal. |
